The Prayer and Support for the Nigerian Armed Forces and other Security Agencies have expressed condolences to the Nigerian Navy on the loss of Lt. Commander Gideon Gwaza, describing him as a hero who gave his life to save others.

Gwaza died while rescuing people from the sinking dredge vessel MV AMBIKA 4 at Okpobo Field in Rivers State.

He successfully rescued the lives of 59 people on board the stranded ship but drowned in the process.

Ambassador Mary Fatile, the PSNASA convener, said in a statement on Tuesday that Gwaza left a legacy of bravery and selflessness.

“PSNASA sees Gwaza’s sacrifice as a testament to the unwavering dedication and commitment of naval personnel, as well as other security agents, including military personnel, police officers, and emergency responders, who risk their lives every day to protect us from harm.

“Unfortunately, some of these brave individuals make the ultimate sacrifice, losing their lives in the line of duty,” the statement read in part.

The organisation urged Nigerians to band together as a society to support and respect the sacrifices of his sort of hero, stating that it was everyone’s job to identify and appreciate the sacrifices of heroes who selflessly put the needs of others ahead of themselves.

“Let’s show our security agents that we value their service and sacrifices. Let’s stand together to support them and their families.

“We owe it to them to ensure that their bravery and selflessness are recognised and appreciated. Together, we can make a difference and show our security agents that we care.

“PSNASA also extends heartfelt condolences to the family of Late Lt. Commander Gideon Yashim Gwaza. You are not alone in your grief. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

“May the fond memories of his bravery, selflessness, and dedication to service bring you comfort and strength. May God grant you the grace to bear this loss, and may Gwaza’s soul rest in peace,” the statement added.
