Popular Nigerian rapper, actor, and activist Folarin Falana, widely known as Falz, has ignited a storm of controversy after declaring that fornication is “not a sin.”

The 34-year-old made the bold assertion via his official X account, prompting intense reactions across social media.

Falz, who is also a trained lawyer and outspoken social commentator, appeared to challenge widely held religious and cultural beliefs, especially in a country where Christianity and Islam play central roles in shaping public morality.

The statement quickly went viral, drawing a flurry of mixed reactions. While some praised Falz for speaking his truth and confronting long-standing religious dogma, many others condemned his position as morally misleading and spiritually dangerous.

Renowned motivational speaker Solomon Buchi responded sharply:

“Fornication is a sin. You’re wrong, the Bible is right. Marriage is honourable bed undefiled.”

Comfort Fajugbagbe added, “Just commit your fornication in peace and stop pushing a wrong narrative. It’s a sin.”

Another user, Major Godspower, weighed in from a Christian perspective:

“That moment when you give up and allow sin (your weakness) to gain mastery over you… True Christianity is not for everyone.”

Others were baffled by the rapper’s stance, given his legal background.

“I’m shocked to see this kind of post from a lawyer himself. May God have mercy,” said a user named Mr Wrong But Right.

    Still, the statement found supporters.

@Sirjosky said, “Finally, someone who they would actually listen to says it. I’ve said it time and again, sex is NOT a sin. We were deliberately conditioned to see it as sin in a bid to curb excesses.”

Another user, @Silvah101, called out perceived hypocrisy:

“Most of y’all are just certified hypocrites. You’re out here condemning this tweet yet you indulge in it.”

Others, like @thereal_lulu26, countered with scriptural citations such as 1 Corinthians 6:18, which urges believers to “flee from sexual immorality.”

The debate has since spiraled into a wider discourse about morality, religious interpretation, and generational shifts in values.

As the controversy continues to unfold, Falz has yet to issue a follow-up statement, leaving fans and critics alike waiting to see whether he will double down or clarify his views.
