A former governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris reportedly died on Sunday, September 20, 2026, in the United Kingdom at the age of 77.
After his passing, Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, former Governor Yahaya Bello, and Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Abdullahi Bello, along with other senior government officials, paid a visit to the deceased’s home in Abuja to offer their condolences to the family.
Onogwu Muhammed, who serves as Special Adviser to the Governor of Kogi State on Public Relations and Chief Press Secretary to former Governor Yahaya Bello, revealed the visit in a Facebook post on Sunday, sharing it alongside photos of Ododo and Bello at the residence.
He wrote, “Kogi State Governor His Excellency Ahmed Usman Ododo; former Governor Yahaya Bello, CON; Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Abdullahi Bello; and other top government officials have arrived at the Abuja residence of the late former Governor Ibrahim Idris, who passed away this afternoon.”
Idris was governor of Kogi State from 2003 to 2012, first taking office in May 2003 and serving a second term after the 2007 election. He was succeeded by Idris Wada in January 2012.
The circumstances surrounding his death were not immediately clear at the time of filing this report.
