Paris Saint-Germain has confirmed the signing of Spanish World Cup-winning forward Ferran Torres, who will join the French champions until 2031.
On Saturday, the club revealed the change on its official website, announcing that Torres will wear number nine.
Torres was born on February 29, 2000, in Foios, Spain, and began his football career with futsal before entering the Valencia CF academy at the age of seven.
He progressed through the Valencia ranks and created history in December 2017 as he became the first player born in the twenty-first century to play in La Liga, making his debut against Eibar.
During his three-season spell with Valencia, Torres made 97 appearances and set several age-related records.
“In 97 matches for Valencia, Ferran Torres left a lasting impression and set a number of new records for his age, becoming, at 19 years and 324 days, the youngest player in the club’s history to have played 50 league matches, as well as the first goalscorer born in the 21st century in the Champions League for a Spanish club,” PSG said.
He won his first professional trophy in 2019 when Valencia lifted the Copa del Rey.
His efforts won him a transfer to Manchester City in 2020, where he played under Pep Guardiola.
“Ferran Torres scored his first goal for the Cityzens in the EFL Cup against Burnley, just six days after making his Premier League debut against Wolverhampton,” PSG said.
The Spanish forward helped Manchester City reach the Champions League final in 2021, and he also won the Premier League and League Cup while at the club.
He played 43 games for City, scoring 16 goals and giving four assists before joining Barcelona during the 2021-22 winter transfer window.
Torres, dubbed “El “Tiburón”—Spanish for “The “Shark”—became a key element of Barcelona’s attacking lineup.
PSG said: “In 207 matches for FC Barcelona, he found the net 65 times, including in the Copa del Rey final victory against Real Madrid in 2025, where he helped his team force the game into extra time.”
He won three La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey, and two Spanish Super Cups during his time with Barcelona.
His international career began with Spain’s youth teams, when he won both the European Under-17 Championship in 2017 and the Under-19 European Championship in 2019.
The forward has since established himself as a senior national team player, having earned 65 caps.
Torres said, “I’m delighted to be beginning a new adventure at such an ambitious club as Paris Saint-Germain.
“I’d like to thank President Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, Luis Campos, and coach Luis Enrique for giving me the opportunity to join the team, which I hope to help win as many trophies as possible for.”
Torres made his senior debut under Luis Enrique in a Nations League match against Germany in 2020, and he went on to represent Spain at Euro 2020 and the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
He went on to win the Nations League with Spain in 2023, then helped the country win the European Championship in Germany in 2024.
According to PSG, Torres has now added the World Cup to his list of international honors.
“Just this summer, in North America, the Valencia-born player won the World Cup and helped Spain add a second star to their shirt.
“Ferran Torres etched his name into the history books by scoring the only goal of the final in extra time as La Roja defeated Argentina, also earning him the Man of the Match award,” the club said.
