    Patrick the fake policeman

Operatives of the State Intelligence Bureau (SIB) Lagos State Police Command, have arrested a fake police officer and his accomplice for absconding with N75,000 under the pretence to procure driving licence for their victim.

The suspects are Ahmed Patrick, 41, aka Pastor, who posed as Police Inspector and Fashina Olufemi, 37, as chief co-ordinator. Narrating her ordeal in the hands of the fraudsters, the victim (name withheld), said: “It is over a month I gave the money to them to procure driving license, tinted glass permit and vehicle plate number.

I gave Olufemi N15, 000 to procure tinted glass permit, N25,000 for driving licence and N35,000 for car number plate. They disappeared with the money. It is God who exposed them because it is my sweat. He told me that Ahmed is a police officer.’’ In his confession Olufemi admitted that he collected money from the victim but that she gave him only N10,000 for tinted glass permit and not N15.000.

He also admitted that he collected N35,000 for her car plate number and N25,000 for driving licence. On why he addressed Ahmed as police Inspector under him, he said it was all a joke meant to convince the victim. He pleaded to the victim to beg the police to forgive him. Confessing, Ahmed said: “I did not know that Olufemi told the woman that I am a police Inspector. He only told me to direct the woman to the police unit in the police headquarters GRA, Ikeja, Lagos.

‘’I am married with three children and I am a native of Idoma, Benue State. I will not lie to you. The woman gave me N2,500. She said N1,500 is for my service while N1,000 would be given to them at the office to show appreciation. She did not give me the N75,000. I did not even know the woman before. ‘’I was working with More Associate Ltd, before the company folded up. I started riding commercial motorcycle. I bought the motorcycle for a sum of N45, 000. My brother assisted me with N25,000 before I bought it. He also promised to give me one of his private cars to start commercial driving until I met one Alhaja Adiba in Ikeja secretariat.

She was the one who made me to get work as a licensing agent and an errand boy to her before I entered into this trouble.” Contacted, a source at SIB said the suspects would be charged to court but berated the victim who claimed to be a graduate, for going to touts to produce important documents despite her academic level and exposure.
