Liverpool handed the struggling Crystal Palace their fourth straight Premier League defeat in a 3-1 victory, putting more pressure on Pierre Sage.
Palace sits at the bottom of the table with only seven points from a possible 30 under Sage, who took over from Oliver Glasner in the summer.
Liverpool punished Palace for their wasted chances at Selhurst Park, with Alexis Mac Allister’s excellent header in the 40th minute breaking the deadlock after a well-worked free-kick routine.
Fourteen minutes into the second half, Florian Wirtz finished neatly to double the Reds’ lead after being found by Bradley Barcola.
Alexander Isak was quiet for most of the match but came to life late on, calmly scoring the visitors’ third in the 89th minute for his seventh league goal of the season.
The hosts grabbed a consolation with the final kick of the game, as Eddie Nketiah converted a penalty after Milos Kerkez was penalized.
The atmosphere at Selhurst Park was understandably subdued as the Eagles began the match on the back foot.
However, the crowd briefly came to life when a Palace attack ended with Yeremy Pino smashing a close-range effort against the Liverpool crossbar.
Despite all of Liverpool’s early possession, they created little, and it was the hosts who believed they had taken a first-half lead, only for Jorgen Strand Larsen to be ruled offside.
And Palace had enough opportunities to score before Nketiah’s stoppage-time penalty, forcing Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker into six saves.
Liverpool, who fell to a disappointing defeat at Fenerbahçe in Europe in midweek, have climbed to fourth in the Premier League, nine points behind leaders Arsenal.
