The All Progressives Congress (APC) has formally adopted the consensus mode for its 2026 governorship primary election in Ekiti State, following the voluntary withdrawal of one of the two cleared aspirants, Mrs. Atinuke Oluremi Omolayo.

Omolayo, in a letter to the party, announced her decision to step down and endorse Governor Biodun Oyebanji as the consensus candidate. She also expressed full support for any process the APC adopts in line with the Electoral Act 2022 and the party’s constitution.

The development prompted the APC to shift from the earlier direct primary option to the consensus arrangement. The party confirmed that it had communicated the change to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) through a letter dated October 13, 2025.

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka (CON), the ruling party disclosed that it had met all legal conditions under Sections 84(9) and (11) of the Electoral Act for adopting the consensus mode.

The APC also unveiled the following timetable for the nomination process:

    • Enugu gov dumps PDP, defects to APC

    • Delegate Congress – Saturday, 25 October 2025
    • Delegate Congress Appeal – Sunday, 26 October 2025
    • Special Nomination Congress to Ratify the Consensus Candidate – Monday, 27 October 2025

Morka praised Omolayo for her “spirit of sportsmanship and commitment to party unity,” urging all members and stakeholders in Ekiti State to rally behind Oyebanji and work for the party’s victory in the June 2026 governorship election.

The decision marks a strategic move by the APC to project internal cohesion ahead of the polls, positioning Governor Oyebanji for a smooth return bid as consensus nominee.
