Celtic claimed their fourth consecutive Scottish Premiership title in style on Saturday, defeating Dundee United 5-0.

Nicolas Kuhn and Adam Idah each scored twice after Ryan Strain’s own goal put Celtic on track to win their 13th Scottish title in 14 seasons.

Celtic are 18 points ahead of second-placed Rangers, who have five games left to play.

The Glasgow club have collected 21 of the previous 26 domestic titles as Brendan Rodgers’ men reign supreme in Scotland.

Celtic just needed a point at Tannadice to kick off their title celebrations, but their goal-scoring frenzy ensured they went out with a bang.

It was a similar feeling for Celtic, as a 5-0 victory against Kilmarnock last season earned Rodgers the title in his first season back at Parkhead.

Rodgers’ latest victory took the former Liverpool manager to 11 major titles as Celtic manager.

Celtic’s title win leaves them on track for their sixth treble in nine seasons and Rodgers’ third when they meet Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup final in May.

Celtic substitute James Forrest also set a club record with his 26th winners’ medal, surpassing Bobby Lennox, who played on the team’s historic 1967 European champions.

The Hoops captain Callum McGregor said, “Amazing performance, outstanding. It means the world to us.

“The sky is the limit for us. We were so good today. We have four league games to try and arrive at the Scottish Cup final at the best moment.

“If we do that, we have the chance to do something special this season.”

Celtic’s title-clinching game was briefly interrupted when visiting fans tossed dozens of tangerines — in reference to Dundee United’s nickname — on the ground in protest of the home club’s ticket costs, which were up to £42 ($56).

Despite that delay, Celtic’s crown has been in doubt since early in the season, with Rangers trailing early on and Aberdeen collapsing spectacularly after matching the champions’ 31 points in the first 11 games.

The Hoops didn’t lose their first league game until January 2 at Rangers, but they were still 13 points ahead, and a collapse was never an option.

Rodgers had chastised his players for being overly complacent following a defeat to basement club St Johnstone earlier this month.

They reacted emphatically by scoring five goals in each of their next three encounters.

After reaching the Champions League knockout phase play-offs, where they were barely defeated by Bayern Munich, Rodgers will now focus on improving the Hoops for further domestic success and European drama next season.
