Benin Electric Distribution Company (BEDC) has confirmed that one of its technical staff members sustained injuries following an electrical incident while carrying out maintenance work on an 11kV feeder in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.

Mrs. Evelyn Gbiwen, the company’s head of branding and corporate communications, confirmed this in a statement issued in Benin on Tuesday.

She stated that the event occurred around 6:20 p.m. on Saturday in the Ado-Poly Satellite Campus region of Ado-Ekiti.

According to the statement, the wounded employee, Mr. Akinyemi Bamidele, a technical linesman, suffered burns to his arm and other areas of his body after being shocked while performing an operational task on the 11kV Basiri Feeder following scheduled maintenance.

She stated that Bamidele was immediately transported to the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital in Ado-Ekiti, where he is undergoing treatment.

She stated that he is stable and responding well to medical treatment.

“BEDC Electricity Plc remains committed to the safety and well-being of its employees and is providing the necessary support to the injured staff member during this period,” she said.

Gbiwen stated that the corporation had launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the occurrence.

According to her, necessary steps would be implemented depending on the findings of the investigation.
