Armed bandits have attacked a farm settlement in Kwara State, killing a labourer and abducting the farm owner during a late-night raid.
The incident occurred around 2:00 a.m. at Purapura Farm Settlement along the Venra–Tenebo road in Kaiama Local Government Area. The attackers reportedly stormed the area, opening fire and taking the farm owner, Musa Purapura, away.
A source familiar with the attack said the victim killed was a labourer from the Republic of Benin who had only arrived at the farm a day earlier. He was reportedly shot during the assault.
The Sariki Samari of Venra confirmed the development, revealing that the kidnappers had already contacted the victim’s family. According to him, the gunmen demanded a ransom of N20 million and two new Haojue motorcycles for the release of the abducted farm owner.
Security sources disclosed that a joint task team comprising police officers, other security agencies, and local vigilantes has been deployed to the area. Search-and-rescue operations are currently ongoing across nearby forests and bush paths.
Authorities say the situation is under close watch, with intensified efforts to secure the victim’s release and prevent further attacks in the community.
