In an unexpected turn of events, a cross-section of Iranians and social media users have celebrated the death of President Ebrahim Raisi.  Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and his foreign minister have been declared dead after a helicopter crash in hilly terrain and freezing weather, an Iranian official said on Monday after search teams discovered the wreckage. Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested no fewer than 78 suspected internet fraudsters in Enugu and Imo States.  This was announced in a statement published on the Commission’s official X page on Monday. The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Monday rejected a fresh application filed by the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, to be released on bail, pending the determination of the treasonable felony charge the Federal Government preferred against him. Iran VP Mohammad Mokhber to assume interim duties after Raisi’s death

Vice President Mohammad Mokhber has been assigned by Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, to assume interim duties following the death of President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash.  “In accordance with Article 131 of the constitution, Mokhber is in charge of leading the executive branch,” said Khamenei in a statement, adding that Mokhber will be required to work with the heads of legislative and judicial branches to prepare for presidential elections “within a maximum period of 50 days.”. Cross River labour threatens strike over minimum wage

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have agreed to attend the ”negotiation” meeting of the Tripartite Committee on the Minimum Wage slated for Tuesday. Operatives of the Nigerian Army have shut down Banex Plaza, a shopping complex located in the Wuse 2 area of Abuja, following attacks on some soldiers over the weekend. The United Kingdom Civil Aviation Authority has written to Nigeria’s Civil Aviation Authority, alleging that Air Peace has allegedly broken some aviation safety laws.  The development happened just three months after the Nigerian carrier launched the Lagos-London route. South Africa’s Constitutional Court declared on Monday that former President Jacob Zuma is ineligible to be elected to the National Assembly in next week’s general election.  The Supreme Court dismissed Zuma’s appeal against an election commission finding that a previous contempt conviction barred him from becoming an MP.
