The Federal Government, through the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, has announced it would investigate the cause of the multiple power grid collapses that occurred on Monday and Tuesday. The investigation comes as the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, said there was nothing like a grid collapse but a trip-off. The US has written to Israel, issuing them 30 days to improve humanitarian aid access in Gaza or risk having some US military assistance withdrawn. The letter, received on Sunday, is the strongest known formal warning from the United States to its partner and comes during a new Israeli offensive in northern Gaza, which has reportedly resulted in a substantial number of civilian casualties. No fewer than five people have been killed by gunmen in the Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State. Residents of Rafut village in the Kwatas area, where the attack occurred on Monday night, said the gunmen ambushed and killed four young men guarding their family’s house. They said that the gunmen invaded the compound and killed an elderly man before fleeing, bringing the overall death toll to five. Canada expelled six Indian diplomats, including the high commissioner, on Monday, accusing them of the murder of a Sikh separatist leader and alleging a larger campaign to target Indian dissidents in Canada.  Earlier in the day, India replied by ordering the expulsion of six high-ranking Canadian diplomats, including the acting high commissioner, and announcing the withdrawal of its envoy from Canada, contradicting Canada’s assertion of expulsion. Mpox has spread to 25 states, the Federal Capital Territory, and 63 local government areas across the country.  This is according to the Mpox situation report issued by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention on Tuesday. This was despite the fact that 94 verified cases had been reported out of a total of 1,297 suspected cases between January 1 and October 6, 2024.
