Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Enugu zonal command have apprehended thirty-six individuals suspected of internet fraud in various locations across Onitsha, Anambra State. The EFCC made the arrests on October 11, 2024, based on “actionable intelligence” linking the suspects to online criminal activities. The suspects allegedly impersonated foreign nationals on social media platforms to defraud victims. The Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC) stated that 76 feeders in Jos and its surrounding areas have been devoted to the Band A plan.  In a statement issued on Thursday in Jos, JEDC’s Head of Corporate Communications, Dr. Elijah Adakole, stated that this was done to improve efficiency and effectiveness in energy distribution to customers. Nigerian crossdresser Idris Okuneye, popularly called Bobrisky, has asked human rights activist and lawyer Femi Falana and his son, Folarin, popularly known as Falz, to hold controversial media critic Martin Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, responsible for the defamatory content circulating on social media. Kenya’s Senate is scheduled to vote on whether to remove Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua from office at the conclusion of the second day of his impeachment trial.  On Thursday, the deputy president will defend himself before legislators in the upper chamber of parliament, two-thirds of whom must vote to remove him. The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has emphasised the need for power grids in various regions or states to prevent grid collapses.  Adelabu made this statement while unveiling Hexing Livoltek, an electricity meter manufacturing company in the Lekki area of Lagos State. Adelabu also acknowledged that grid collapses are almost unavoidable in Nigeria due to the country’s poor power infrastructure. The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has sent an emergency response team to Kogi State following the flooding of many villages.  This measure is intended to help the agency monitor the flood situation across the country more proactively, according to a statement released on Wednesday. The town of Majiya, in the Taura Local Government Area of Jigawa State, was thrown into mourning on Wednesday following the explosion of a petrol-laden tanker, leading to the death of at least 153 people. It was stated that 94 people died on the scene, while many others were injured and brought to Ringim General Hospital, where medics were trying to save their lives.
