A US Army veteran carrying an Islamic State flag and ‘hellbent’ on mayhem drove a pickup truck into a crowd of New Year’s revellers in New Orleans on Wednesday, killing at least 15 people and injuring scores, according to officials.  The perpetrator was identified by the FBI as Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old US citizen from Texas. He looked to be a Houston real estate agent who had previously served as an IT specialist in the military. Officials stated they were looking for accomplices but provided few specifics. Bandits suspected of being foot soldiers for bandit leader Bello Turji kidnapped ten passengers and burnt their vehicle on the Kaura-Namoda-Shinkafi Road in Zamfara state.  The event occurred one day after the Defence Headquarters branded Turji “a dead man walking,” saying that he and other terror masterminds would not live until 2025. Turji had threatened to resume the abduction and death of innocent people in Zamfara and Sokoto states if his brother, Baka Wurgi, who is currently in military detention, was not released by the end of December 2024. Super Eagles goalie, Stanley Nwabali, has reportedly lost his mother to the cold hands of death. Nwabali announced her death in a statement on X on New Year Day. ”RIP Mom, worst year of my life already,” he wrote on X. Her death comes a few weeks after the demise of his father. Chronicle NG reported that the father of the Eagles goalkeeper died in November. At the time of filing this report, the cause of his mother’s death is unknown.

Shehu Mahdi, a self-acclaimed activist and public commentator, was ordered to be remanded in the Nigerian Correctional Centre in Kaduna by a chief magistrate court on Tuesday. Mahdi was arrested a few days ago by Department of State Services personnel after he refused to remove incendiary videos he posted online stating that President Bola Tinubu had granted France permission to establish a military camp in northern Nigeria. Mahdi’s account followed a similar accusation by Niger Republic’s military head, Abdourahamane Tchiani, that France established a military facility in northern Nigeria. A fire outbreak has razed the Okokomaiko police station and surrounding buildings in Lagos, according to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency. According to LASEMA’s permanent secretary, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the inferno started in a diesel tanker carrying 10,000 gallons of fuel. He stated that the tanker caught fire while supplying diesel to a network tower near the police station. The Ogun State Police Command has announced the arrest of Kehinde Yemitan, a murder and ritualist suspect, from his hiding place in the Ilogbo Ota village.  The suspect’s twin brother and Kazeem were previously detained on December 22 for the alleged murder and dismemberment of Darasimi, a commercial sex worker who was lured to their Abeokuta home and eventually slain.
