No fewer than 10 operatives of The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arrested by the Commission over their suspected involvement in the disappearance of some missing items. No fewer than 18 people were slain in coordinated attacks across multiple towns in the Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State on Sunday.  The killings occurred in Umukabia, Eziawa, Ihitte Nasa, Umuhu, Amaoku, and Amaebe. Victims were left with serious machete wounds, causing fear and fury among neighbours. The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) on Wednesday said over 34 terrorists and six troops lost their lives during a fierce encounter in Sabon Gari village, Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State, on January 4, 2025. The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, stated that the Islamic State of West Africa Province and Boko Haram terrorists attacked troops stationed in the area in retaliation for the recent killing of commanders and combatants by troops. Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Ahmad Bunkure, the newly appointed special adviser on works, who died on Wednesday in Egypt.  The governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi DawakinTofa, announced Bunkure’s death on Wednesday. Mexico’s government is to award up to $1,300 to those who surrender weaponry such as machine guns and assault rifles as part of a citizen disarmament program aimed at lowering violent crime.  The financial incentives for persons who drop off guns at church collection stations were announced late Monday in the country’s official gazette. The Governor Seyi Makinde-led Oyo State Government, on Tuesday, urged the state high court in Ibadan not to grant bail to the ex-queen of Ooni of Ife, Naomi Shilekunola; Hamzat Oriyomi; and a school principal, Fasasi Abdullahi. The court had on December 24 remanded the defendants in prison over the death of 35 children during a Christmas funfair they organised in Ibadan, which resulted in a fatal stampede.
