Ibrahim Dankwambo, a former governor of Gombe State, has won the Gombe North Senatorial District election, defeating incumbent Sen. Saidu Alkali of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Dankwambo, a two-term governor of the state, ran for office on the People’s Democratic Party platform (PDP). The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared the Niger State Governor, Abubakar Bello, of the All Progressives Congress the winner of the Niger North senatorial election. According to the returning officer, Zacchaeus Kolo, who announced the results, Bello polled 100,197 votes and having satisfied all conditions was declared the winner. Bello won the senatorial election against the PDP and NNPP candidates who scored 88,158 and 13,886 votes respectively. He has served as a two-term governor on the platform of APC. Gov. Ben Ayade has been defeated in his bid to return to the Senate by Sen. Jarigbe Agom-Jarigbe, the incumbent senator representing Cross River North. Ayade, who served in the Senate from 2011 to 2015, was defeated in Saturday’s National Assembly elections by Agom-Jarigbe of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who received 76,145 votes. Ahmed Wadada of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has been declared the winner of the Nasarawa West Senatorial District election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Election Observers from the European Union (EU) have praised election officials and ad hoc staff from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for successfully coordinating the 2023 election. Yiaga Africa has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to safeguard the transparency of the results collation process by allowing accredited observers and party representatives free access to the collation centers. In protest over the non-conduct of elections in a majority of the council, around 100 people, including voters, party agents, politicians, and supporters, have gathered at the INEC secretariat in the Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State.
