National Assemly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Enugu has dismissed a petition filed by Senator Chimaroke Nnamani of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, disputing the election of Senator Kelvin Chukwu of the Labour Party. The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, proclaimed Chukwu the winner of the Enugu East Senatorial District election on February 25, 2023, after his late brother was slain during the campaign. He received almost 69,000 votes, defeating Chimaroke Nnamani, who received over 49,000 votes. Men of the Rivers State Police Command have arrested one of the suspects linked to the killing of Mr Bako Angbashim. On September 8, Angbashim, Superintendent of Police, led his men to raid criminal hideouts in the Odemude community of the state’s Ahoada West Local Government Area when they were ambushed, opened fire, and eventually captured Angbashim, decapitated his body, and filmed their action. Since the event, the State Police Command, led by Commissioner of Police Emeka Nwonyi, has been looking for the perpetrators. Six people have been killed by bandits who once again invaded the Takanai community in the Atyap Chiefdom in Kaduna State’s Zango Kataf Local Government Area. The incident was reported to journalists by Samson Markus, Acting Secretary to the District Head of the affected community, while the Kaduna State Police Command spokesperson was unavailable for comment. Ukrainian football teams will boycott all competitions featuring Russian sides, their federation said on Wednesday in response to UEFA re-admitting Russia’s youth team to international competition. “The UAF confirms that it will not take part in any competitions involving Russian teams,” it said. A coroner inquest into the death of late Nigerian musician Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, will commence on Friday, September 29, at the Ikorodu Magistrate Court in Lagos. The Senate has confirmed the appointment of Yemi Cardoso as governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and four additional deputy governors.
