Court orders British Airways to pay passenger N53m over lost luggage

A law firm, Sovereignty Legal Practitioners, has threatened to file a class action against British Airways over the systematic inhuman treatment of Nigerian passengers using the airline. In a pre-action letter to the airline dated August 30, 2024, and signed by its Principal Partner, Ife Ajayi, the law firm decried the persistent disruption of scheduled flights to Nigeria as a result of the airline’s alleged deployment of faulty and substandard aircrafts to Nigerian routes and noted that it would file a class action against the airline if the practice is not checkmated. The Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre has apprehended a mother and her daughter over their alleged involvement in a romance scam that reportedly defrauded a Malta-based victim of more than N18m.

The police command in Akwa Ibom says it has apprehended two persons over suspected involvement in drug trafficking in the state. ASP Timfon John, the command’s public relations officer, who disclosed this in a statement in Uyo on Monday, said that some weapons were recovered in the process. The police in Canada have arrested Amaka Sunnberger, the woman in connection with an alleged online threat targeting specific members of the Nigerian community.
