Coronavirus infections across the United States have passed 2.5 million, with record numbers of cases reported in the states of Florida and Texas. The surge in cases in southern states comes after businesses were allowed to re-open in recent weeks. On Saturday, Florida reported more than 9,500 new cases, up from almost 9,000 on Friday, the previous record. The Chief Judge of Kogi state, Justice Nasiru Ajanah is dead, a close source has said on Sunday. Ajanah, 64, reportedly died in the early hours of Sunday in an Abuja hospital where he was being treated for an undisclosed ailment. A source, who spoke in confidence, told The Nation that the late Kogi Chief law officer had been battling a critical health challenge, which necessitated his being moved to Abuja for better medical attention. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced Nigeria’s single highest one-day coronavirus cases in the country on Saturday with 779 cases. The 779 cases announced by the Centre for Disease Control takes the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 24077. The NCDC also announced the discharge of 372 patients from isolation centers across the country with four new deaths reported. Lagos state, the epicentre of the virus in Nigeria topped the number of confirmed cases with 285 new cases taking the total number of confirmed cases in Lagos alone to 10026. Nigerians have reacted angrily on Saturday as Access Bank deducted staggering stamp duty from customers across the country. Some of the customers who took to social media to display their disgust at the charges by Access Bank said they were not going to do business with the financial institution anymore. Others said they were going to shut down their bank accounts and move to competitors who have better services. An Access Bank customer, Lawal Afeez Arishekola, described the Stamp Duty charge as a ‘evil’ in a tweet. He alerted the Central Bank of Nigeria to the activities of the bank.…

Residents doctors at the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital (UNIMETH) in Ondo have been sacked. Their sack was announced in a letter announcing the suspension of the institution residency training programme from August 1st, 2020. It urged all Resident doctors directly employed by the hospital to seek continuation of their programme in other institutions where there are ongoing training program.
