The acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Prof. Omololu Soyombo, has stepped down. This followed the setting up of a Special Visitation Panel to the institution by the Federal Government on Friday. Soyombo, in a statement, said he’s stepping down with immediate effect. Franca Udokwu, 30, has been arrested for allegedly dumping her newborn baby inside a pit toilet in Obuba Obofia Nkpor Community in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State. The suspect was said to have dumped the baby inside the toilet in her room after delivery. It was gathered that the baby was later recovered by the police following a tip-off, but was confirmed dead at a nearby hospital where he was taken to. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced 340 confirmed new coronavirus cases in the country on Friday. The 340 cases announced by the Centre for Disease Control takes the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 51,304. The NCDC also announced the discharge of 316 patients from isolation centers across the country with four new deaths reported.
