A Florida taxi driver, who believed false claims that coronavirus was a hoax, has lost his wife to Covid-19. Brian Lee Hitchens and his wife, Erin, had read claims online that the virus was fabricated, linked to 5G or similar to the flu. The couple didn’t follow health guidance or seek help when they fell ill in early May. Brian recovered but his 46-year-old wife became critically ill and died this month from heart problems linked to the virus. The Senate of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has elected Prof. Folasade Ogunsola as the new acting Vice Chancellor. Ogunsola, who is the deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development Services) polled 135 votes compared to Prof. Ben Oghojafor’s 31 votes. It was gathered one vote was declared void. A total of 167 professors were at the Senate meeting. Oghojafor is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Management Services. Kellyanne Conway has announced that she is resigning from her post as Senior Counsel to US President Donald Trump to focus on her children. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced 322 confirmed new coronavirus cases in the country on Sunday with the death toll surpassing 1000. The 322 cases announced by the Centre for Disease Control takes the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 52,227. The NCDC also announced the discharge of 178 patients from isolation centers across the country with five new deaths reported. Four men were killed on Sunday in Epe, Lagos, when a Toyota Camry with registration number LSR-724FW and a tricycle (popularly known as Keke Marwa) collided. A statement by the Lagos Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) blamed the accident on the Toyota Camry’s driver, who was on top speed, making one of the vehicle’s front tyres to bust. Professor Tonnie Iredia, a former director-general of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), has said the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) must go back to the drawing board and draft a new national broadcasting code. Speaking in an interview, Iredia, a professor of Broadcast Management and Media Law, explained that the amendment to the sixth broadcasting code recently unveiled by Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information, lacked the significant input of stakeholders and practitioners due to the lack of wide consultation by the NBC.
