Policemen on Saturday night used teargas to disperse hundreds of #EndSARS protesters who had gathered at the Force Headquarters in Abuja all day demanding to see Police Inspector General Mohammed Adamu. A member of an alleged armed robbery syndicate terrorizing the Isiagu area in Awka South local government area of Anambra State has been killed by the police in the state. Other suspected members of the gang ran into the bush when they engaged members of the State Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) and vigilante in a gun duel. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Saturday announced 111 confirmed new coronavirus cases in the country, passing the 60,000 mark. The 111 cases announced by the Centre for Disease Control takes the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 60,103. The NCDC also announced the discharge of 70 patients from isolation centers across the country with two new deaths reported. Plateau state recorded the highest number of new infections with the announcement of 32 new cases. Two small planes have collided in mid-air before crashing in western-central France, killing five people, local officials say. The collision between two light aircraft happened south-east of the city of Tours at about 16:30 local time (15:30 BST) on Saturday. Emergency crew, including about 50 firefighters, were called to the scene. They cordoned off the crash sites. No-one else was harmed when the planes came down. The smaller aircraft, a microlight carrying two people, landed on a fence around a house in the town of Loches, situated about 46km (29 miles) south-east of Tours. A witness told AFP news agency…

A man who killed nine women in a case that caused outrage in Nigeria has been sentenced to death in the southern city of Port Harcourt. Prosecutors say 40-year-old Gracious David-West strangled his victims in hotel rooms across Nigeria between July and September 2019. Justice Adolphus Enebeli said he is to die by hanging. The death penalty is not commonly carried out in Nigeria – the last three executions were in 2016. One of Gracious David-West victims survived the attack, but was not a witness during the trial.
