Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) on Sunday said reports from its preliminary investigations showed that the Best Roof Gas Plant Station, Baruwa, Lagos, where last Thursday’s gas explosion occurred had no operational licence. Mr Sarki Auwalu, DPR’s director, spoke in a statement while commiserating with victims. News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that five persons died in the explosion. Eight persons were rescued with various injuries. A mobile policeman was shot dead by gunmen on Sunday morning in Osubi, Okpe local government area of Delta state. The incident, which caused panic in the area, occurred around 9am. It was gathered the gunmen had attempted to break into a plaza along the ever busy Osubi-Abraka Road. The mobile policeman, who tried to stop them, was shot dead. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Sunday announced 163 confirmed new coronavirus cases in the country as Lagos infections rise. The 163 cases announced by the Centre for Disease Control takes the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 60,266. The NCDC also announced the discharge of 24 patients from isolation centers across the country with no new death reported. The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu has announced the dissolution of Special Anti-Robbery Squad.
