The 19 northern governors have rejected the disbandment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) by the Inspector General of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF). After publicly identifying with #EndSARS protesters, governors on Wednesday intervened in the unabating protests despite government’s concession. They met on Wednesday in Abuja with Inspector-General of Police Mohammed Adamu on the issue and the way forward. The Nigerian Army says it remains resolute to ensure peace and stability of the nation, in a statement on Wednesday. The army stressed that its loyalty and commitment is to President Muhammadu Buhari and the constitution of Nigeria. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced 179 confirmed new coronavirus cases in the country on Wednesday. The 179 cases announced by the Centre for Disease Control takes the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 60,834. The NCDC also announced the discharge of 137 patients from isolation centers across the country with one new death reported. Three children of police officers have drowned in an open pit filled with floodwater at Eket Divisional Police barracks in Akwa Ibom state. It was gathered that the children, aged between 5 and 10, had gone to play in the open pit at about 5 pm on Tuesday when the tragic incident occurred. Two of the kids, it was learnt, are of the same parents, an inspector, while the other belongs to another police officer whose names could not be confirmed at press time. Two persons were feared killed and many others injured when a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) ran into a crowd of #EndSARS protesters at Alagbado, a Lagos suburb. Footage from a viral video showed two lifeless bodies being carried away by some youths while a volunteer of medical corps was deployed, especially around Amikanle area to take care of the wounded before those with severe injuries were moved to Cavesbury Hospital. The Lagos State Police Command has arrested six of the hoodlums who attacked innocent Lagosians and damaged some vehicles along Ondo Street, Ebute-Metta, Lagos State on Tuesday, 13th October, 2020.
