The party of the Ugandan opposition leader Bobi Wine has declared its readiness to challenge President Yoweri Museveni’s election victory as it condemned what it called the house arrest of Wine and his wife. Barring further closure as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the second term of the 2020/2021 academic session is meant to last for 61 days for public and private schools in Lagos state. According to the revised calendar for the 2020/2021 academic session released by the Office of the Education Quality Assurance (OEQA), the second term is slated to run from January 18, 2021 to April 30. The United States and several European governments have demanded the release of opposition politician Alexei Navalny from Russian detention. Mr Navalny, 44, was detained by police soon after his flight from Germany landed in Moscow on Sunday. Lagos state, the epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic in Nigeria, has surpassed 40,000 cases as the numbers continue to spike in the commercial center.
