A Minna Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday convicted 11 prostitutes arrested within Minna metropolis to various jail terms, but with option of fine. The Chief Magistrate, Abdullahi Usman, convicted them as they pleaded guilty to the charges levelled against them. The prosecuting counsel, Mallam Mukthar Muhammad had told the court that the 11 prostitutes were arrested in different locations in Minna. A Winnipeg woman, Andrea Giesbrecht, has been found guilty of disposing of the remains of six infants in a storage locker. Ms Giesbrecht had been charged with six counts of concealing the body of a child. Each charge carries a sentence of up to two years in jail. Manitoba provincial court Judge Murray Thompson read out his decision on Monday after a months-long trial. According to BBC News, the remains of the infants were found in the locker in October 2014. The US Justice Department has defended President Donald Trump’s travel ban and urged an appeals court to reinstate it in the interests of national security. A 15-page brief argued it was a “lawful exercise of the president’s authority” and not a ban on Muslims. The executive order temporarily banned entry for all refugees and visitors from seven mainly Muslim countries. A hearing has been set for Tuesday on whether to allow or reject the ban.
