By Chief Edwin Emeka Aboh I read the article with the above title with keen interest devoid of any mixed feeling. No doubt, the article is a direct response to my earlier piece titled: “Hassan Dankwambo: A Sure Bet for Another PDP Presidency” which was widely published in virtually all the media organisations in the country. For me not to expect reaction to that piece especially from the camp of the man believed to own about 70 percent of Nigeria’s media space is akin to living in fools paradise. But, I don’t mind about their reaction because, already, I…
An Appeal Court sitting in Akure, the Ondo State capital, has affirmed the sacking of the traditional ruler of Igbindo community in Ondo West Local Government Area of the state, Oba John Olaniji Ogundoju, saying he was not eligible to contest the stool. The court asked Ogundoju to vacate the stool and stop parading himself as the traditional ruler of the community and ordered the ruling house to start a fresh process of electing a new monarch for the town. Ogundolu was, in 2015, removed by the state High Court barely two weeks after he was presented the staff of…
Saudi Arabian airline, Flynas, will earn about N25 billion off the Nigerian air travel market in this year’s Hajj airlifting. The disclosure followed a controversial 50 per cent quota approved recently by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) at a key stakeholders’ meeting. In the deal, Flynas will airlift about 47,500 Nigerian pilgrims, leaving local carriers to jostle for the remainder. The move has, however, come under criticism, with some players in the aviation industry questioning the rationale for tipping such Bilateral Air Service Agreement (BASA) in favour of a foreign airline, while depriving indigenous ones the opportunity to…
Nottingham Forest scored two penalties to knock holders Arsenal out of the FA Cup after a thrilling 4-2 victory at the City Ground on Sunday. Eric Lichaj headed Forest in front in the 20th minute and then scored a brilliant volley late in the first half after Per Mertesacker had equalised for Arsenal. Ben Brereton made it 3-1 when he converted a penalty after half-time, only for Danny Welbeck to give the Gunners a lifeline when he replied in the 79th minute. Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Paulinho were on target as Barcelona cruised to a 3-0 home win against Levante on Sunday which saw LaLiga’s leaders stretch their advantage over Atletico Madrid back to nine points. Barcelona ended 2017 with a crushing Clasico win at Real Madrid – who are now 17 points off the pace, albeit with two games in hand – and they continued the club-record start to a season with ease, although there was no sign of Philippe Coutinho. A deal worth a reported £142million was announced by Barca on Saturday, but Ernesto Valverde’s men had more than…

China has completed the major work of the world’s longest sea bridge on schedule, after its lighting system was installed and tested. It took six years preparation, and eight years to build the 55-kilometre-long bridge linking Hong Kong, Zhuhai and Macao. Major work on the bridge consisted of a 22.9-kilometre-long main bridge, a 6.7-kilometre-long tunnel and an artificial island off the bridge, which is considered the most technically demanding part of the whole construction.
