Indonesian President Joko Widodo on Monday announced the relocation of the new national capital to replace sinking and traffic-clogged Jakarta. Widodo said the country’s new administrative centre will be built in a forested area that straddles the border between the districts of Kutai Katanegara and North Penajam Paser in East Kalimantan province near the city of Balikpapan. “The location is strategic because it’s in the centre of Indonesia,’’ he said. Following the ongoing investigation on Atiku’s son-in-law Abdullahi Babalele, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has extended to Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, its investigation of the laundered 150 million euros cash-for-poll by associates of former vice-president Atiku Abubakar. It was learnt that the investigators went to the Library on August 8 to authenticate the claims by one of those under probe that he gave $140,000 (about N50 million) to one of the library officials. The WHO said accelerated Research and Development (R&D) in new tools for malaria prevention and treatment is key if the world is to eradicate the disease in the foreseeable future. According to information in WHO’s official website, today, less than one per cent of funding for health R&D investment goes to developing tools to tackle malaria. WHO also soareheads the urgent need for progress to advance universal health coverage and improve access to services, and better surveillance to guide a more targeted malaria response. Trans-Amadi Central Mosque in Port Harcourt, Rivers State was on Tuesday 20th August, 2019 demolished by the Rivers State government. The demolition exercise has however been denounced by the Islamic human rights organisation, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC). An Irish firm, which won a world record $9.6bn arbitration fine against the Federal Government, has instructed its lawyers to identify Nigeria’s assets that can be targeted to recover the money. The company confirmed in an electronic mail to PUNCH that it was focussed on identifying Nigeria’s assets that could be seized in the process of enforcing the decision of an arbitration tribunal which was recently converted to a court judgment.
