President Muhammadu Buhari has returned to Abuja after attending the seventh Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD7) in Yokohama, Japan. Buhari held investment talks with top officials of Japan Bank for International Cooperation and Toyota Group. Malam Mele Kyari, Group Managing Director, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), has debunked reports of an explosion on the Abura Crude Trunk line, operated by the Corporation. This was contained in a statement signed by NNPC spokesperson, Mr Ndu Ughamadu, on Saturday in Abuja. Ughamadu said Kyari faulted the reports shortly after teeing off the 2019 NNPC Upstream Golf Tournament in Benin City. NAN recalls that there were alleged media reports that the pipeline, situated at Otu-Jeremi town in Ughelli, Delta, was engulfed in flames. The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Saturday provided relief materials to flood victims in Daura, Katsina State. More than 300 houses were totally brought down while other houses, shops and farmlands were submerged following downpour on Tuesday and Wednesday. The acting Chairman of Daura Local Government Area, Abba Mato, had described the flood as “one of the worst ever witnessed in the area”. Areas worst hit were Kusugu, Sabongari, Sarkin Yara and Mazoji areas of Daura metropolis. The items donated by NEMA include Rice, Maize, Beans, Millet, Cooking oil and salt. At least five people have been killed and many more injured in the second mass shooting in the US state of Texas in a month. First to be shot was a policeman who stopped the gunman’s car between the cities of Midland and Odessa. The gunman went on to shoot at numerous motorists and passers-by. At one point, he abandoned his car and stole a postal truck before continuing his spree. He was shot dead by police at a cinema complex. The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has told the Federal Government to jettison the planned RUGA scheme, saying the association was opposed to the implementation of the programme anywhere in Nigeria. On May 21, the Federal Government approved what it termed the RUGA settlement scheme, to curb open grazing of animals nationwide.
