More than 900 people were left homeless when fire burnt their shacks in Johannesburg’s Pomona informal settlement in Kempton Park, said Ekurhuleni Mayor Mzwandile Masina on Tuesday. The Forward Operating Base (FOB) of the Nigerian Navy in Ibaka, Akwa Ibom, has arrested six suspected smugglers and seized 256 bags of 50kg rice. The Commanding Officer of FOB, Capt. Peter Yilme, made the disclosure while handing over the suspects and items to the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on Tuesday in Ibaka, Mbo LGA of Akwa Ibom. Police in Nigeria’s biggest city, Lagos, have freed 19 women and girls who had mostly been abducted and impregnated by captors planning to sell their babies. The girls and women, aged from 15 to 28, had been brought from all over Nigeria with promises of work, Lagos police said on Monday.
