The Senate on Wednesday proposed a 14-year jail term for sexual predators in Nigeria and it also deliberated over President Buhari’s Finance bill, 2019. The bills, which scaled second reading on the floor of the Senate, were sponsored by the Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege and Senate Leader, Abdullahi Yahaya, respectively. The environs of Ajao Estate in the Isolo area of Lagos State have been thrown into mourning following the death of a mother of four, Mrs Chibuzor Balogun. According to the 14-year-old son of the deceased, his mother died a little above 30 years at their residence, No. 2 Raji Aliu Street, off the Airport Road, Ajao Estate, last Wednesday. The Court of Appeal on Wednesday sacked spokesman of the Nigerian Senate, Adedayo Adeyeye, as the lawmaker representing Ekiti South senatorial district in the upper chamber of legislature. The court also declared Senator Biodun Olujimi of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as winner. A political group in Nigeria has described the breakaway Yoruba group, Afenifere, as a faction of the main opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The Initiative to Save Democracy (ISD) said the actions and utterances of the group has been largely in line with that of the opposition party, noting that, since their presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, lost at the Supreme Court they have been bitter. “It is an abomination for this group to claim that they represent Yorubas in any way. A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, Southwest Nigeria on Tuesday ordered the Nigerian Army and its Chief of Army Staff (COAS) to suspend the ongoing Operation Positive Identification. The presiding Judge, Rilwanu Aikawa ordered both parties to maintain status quo pending the determination of substantive suit filed by Human right activist Femi Falana, SAN. Mr Falana is seeking, an order stopping the operation. The COAS, the Nigerian Army and the Attorney-General of the Federation are respondents in the suit.
