Residents of Abuja, Nigeria’s capital looted Next Cash and Carry Supermarket as it was gutted by fire on Sunday. Chronicle NG had earlier reported that the supermarket was on fire at around midday as bellow of smoke enveloped the supermarket and neighbouring buildings at Kado Kuchi, Off Ahmadu Bellow way, Gwarimpa Express Abuja. Efforts to put out the raging fire as been abortive but residents who should have helped salvage what is left of the supermarket looted it. Next Cash and Carry Supermarket in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital has been gutted by fire on Boxing Day. According to eyewitnesses who spoke to Chronicle NG, the cause of the fire could not be determined as the bellow of smoke engulfed the supermarket and neighbouring buildings. Chronicle NG cannot ascertain if there are any casualties as at press time but can report that calls have been made to the Fire Service Department who have dispatched operatives to the scene. Archbishop Desmond Tutu, the Nobel Peace prize laureate who helped end apartheid in South Africa, has died aged 90. His death was confirmed in a statement by President Cyril Ramaphosa. The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) says electricity has again topped its 2021 consumer related complaints chart just like in 2020. Security forces in Sudan have fired tear gas at pro-democracy protesters in the capital, Khartoum. The demonstrators converged on the presidential palace for the second time in a week, but were met by a heavy security presence.
