Salami Etudaiye, the Director-General of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign for the 2027 election in Kogi Central, has begun mobilizing supporters in Kogi State’s Okehi Local Government Area for the re-election of Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the district’s senator.
The mobilization began on Thursday, when PDP supporters, including youths, women, and party loyalists, held a solidarity road walk in Okehi in support of Akpoti-Uduaghan and other party candidates ahead of the 2027 general election.
Mike Idoko, the senator’s special assistant on media and publicity, made the announcement in an Abuja statement.
Adavi, Ajaokuta, Okehi, Okene, and Ogori-Magongo are the local government areas in Kogi Central.
The road walk, according to supporters, was intended to bolster the PDP’s grassroots mobilization and mobilize residents of the senatorial district in support of Akpoti-Uduaghan’s bid for a second term in the Senate.
Speaking during the road walk, Etudaiye, who is in charge of the PDP’s campaign organization in the senatorial district, described the mobilization as evidence of the party’s rising grassroots strength in Kogi Central.
He stated that Akpoti-Uduaghan’s first tenure allowed the electorate to evaluate her performance, capacity, and style of representation, and that the 2027 election would provide an opportunity to solidify the accomplishments made thus far.
“The people of Kogi Central have a choice to make, and that choice should be based on performance, capacity, courage, and the ability to represent the collective interest of the people. Senator Natasha has demonstrated these qualities in her first tenure,” Etudaiye said.
Etudaiye said that restoring the senator for a second term would allow her to strengthen her parliamentary representation, extend constituency-focused initiatives, and pursue programs aimed at improving the socioeconomic well-being of Kogi Central citizens.
The campaign DG further asked voters in the district to look beyond partisan views and examine what he termed the long-term interests of the people.
“A second tenure is not simply about returning an individual to the office. It is about giving the people an opportunity to consolidate representation, experience, and programs that can have a lasting impact. We are calling on our people across Kogi Central to unite behind Senator Natasha and all the PDP candidates,” he said.
He urged inhabitants of the five local government areas to continue peaceful political engagement and remain unified as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections gain traction.
Similarly, Bashir Haroon, a PDP stalwart, viewed the turnout as a reflection of the people’s trust in Akpoti-Uduaghan and the party.
According to Haroon, Okehi people were utilizing the parade to voice their preferences for representation in the National Assembly.
He said, “Okehi is standing firm with the PDP and with Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. We have seen her commitment, we have seen her courage, and we have seen the way she has continued to identify with the people.
“This support is not about politics alone; it is about standing with a representative who has demonstrated that she understands the aspirations of her constituents.”
He asked Kogi Central residents to be united and vote for the senator in the 2027 election.
Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central in the Senate, has remained a prominent political figure in the district since taking office, with supporters citing her legislative engagements, constituency outreach, and advocacy on issues important to her constituents as reasons for seeking continuity.
Her supporters have also suggested that returning for another term will allow her to build on her expertise in the National Assembly and strengthen her position in pursuing district initiatives and interventions.
According to the PDP campaign leadership, the planned second-term agenda will consolidate existing initiatives while extending opportunities in infrastructure, education, youth development, women’s empowerment, healthcare, skill acquisition, and economic growth throughout the district.
