Twenty-eight more Bethel Baptist secondary school students have been freed from their captors. This brings the total number of freed students to thirty-one.

Few days ago, prior to the latest development, three students had regained their freedom.

The freed students were discovered on Sunday morning inside Tsoho Gaya forest in Chikun local government area.

It can be recalled that 121 students of Bethel Baptist secondary school, Chikun LGA, were abducted from their dormitories on the 8th of July, 2021.

The bandits had asked the parents to provide foodstuff and provisions for the victims after which they asked for N60 million ransom to release the children.

The rate of banditry, school kidnappings and killings in Kaduna and other Noth-Western states has increased drastically in the past few months. According to UNICEF, over 1,000 students have been kidnapped in the region.

Few days ago, Bandits raided another school in Kaduna when the SS3 students were about to write their NECO examinations. Fortunately, the bandits were not there for the children, rather they carted away the examination question papers.

The Bethel Baptist students have been in captivity for over two weeks which has caused despair and depression among many of their parents. Most of the students are under the age of 15, the oldest being 19, and the youngest just 10 years old.
