Cue the eye roll every time a guy says “I’m falling in love with you” after spending approximately 457 seconds with a girl. I mean, what?! Here’s the shocker – If you’ve ever wondered how long it takes to fall in love, you may be surprised to know that research has shown that physiologically, it takes just a fifth of a second for chemistries to fly and produce that in-love feeling. You think that’s fast? Technically, you need only an hour with a stranger.

Studies have shown that men wait just 88 days (that’s under three months) to say those three little words to their partner for the first time, and 39 per cent say them within the first month. Women, on the other hand, take an average of 134 days.

There are couples who met their partners in few weeks and had no doubt that they wanted to spend their lives together. We also have parents who are a product of arranged marriages but are still going strong in their union.

Nonetheless, when it comes to finding a lifelong partner, especially from our part of the world, there are several questions and preferences that come to mind. What makes two people a good match? What makes a marriage last?

How much time is enough to know a person before getting married to them? What kind of family is the person from? What kind of work does the person do? It’s important to know that there are no clear-cut answers to these questions or rules guiding the perfect marriage or partner.

Here’s where ‘Ultimate Love’, MultiChoice’s newest reality show, comes in. ‘Ultimate Love’ is a new reality television show coming this February to DStv and GOtv screens. This first-of-its-kind reality TV show format is integrating dating and entertainment in redefining matchmaking and promises to be excitingly different from what viewers are used to.

‘Ultimate Love’ will televise the compact journey of 16 participants made up of eight males and eight females who are single (but of course!) and open to the adventure the show will bring.

They will get paired based on their mutual attraction to one another and will compete in a series of locally inspired activities as couples with viewers voting off their least favorite couple on a weekly basis.

An interesting twist to the show is the presence of a resident counselor who will be referred to as ‘Aunty’. Her role will be to help the singles and soon-to-be couples work through the ups and downs in their journey to finding love.

And that’s not the best part. The organizers are pulling all the stops to make this show worthwhile for the participating love birds, and the winning couple will be rewarded with a lavish traditional marriage and a home if they commit to getting married.

Many surprises and maximum entertainment await viewers as this spanking new variety of reality television makes it debut this February.
