Barcelona have signed Kevin-Prince Boateng on loan from Serie A side US Sassuolo for the remainder of the 2018/19 season.

The agreement includes an €8m purchase option.

Boateng will be presented on Tuesday, 22 January, with the following his contract signing in the President Suñol Box, in a private ceremony.

He will then have a photo session on the field at Camp Nou before his first official press conference.

A statement on Barcelona website read, “Boateng is a player who is versatile to a fault.

“During his time with Las Palmas with Quique Setién as coach he played as an out and out striker, a typical number ‘9’.

“However, he is also able to play further back as he did at AC Milan, scoring twice against Barça in his time with the Rossoneri.

“His ability to bring people into the game means he is excellent at playing behind the main striker.

Born in Berlin on 6 March 1987, Boateng began his career with his home town club of Hertha, making his Bundesliga debut on 13 August 2005.

In 2007 he signed for Tottenham Hotspur before moving to Borussia Dortmund for six months.

Boateng’s sojourn back in Germany was cut short by a return to the Premier League and a move to Portsmouth.

After appearing for Ghana in 2010 for the first of his two World Cup appearances, Boateng made the move to Serie A signing for AC Milan where he won a Scudetto and the Italian Super Cup.

In Lombardy he coincided with former blaugranes Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Ronaldinho.
