Nollywood actor and comedian and skit maker, Samuel Perry, widely known as Broda Shaggi, has shared how a stray bullet injury forced him off work for months, leaving him unsure about his future in entertainment and worried that fans might forget him.
In a YouTube video posted on Wednesday night, the comedian recounted what happened, confirming Chronicle NG’s earlier report on the incident.
Chronicle NG reported in March 2026 that the incident occurred on a Sunday afternoon while Shaggi was filming a comedy skit beneath the Sango-Ota bridge.
Although the details of the incident remained unclear, a police source, who asked not to be named because he was not authorized to speak on the matter, said the social media influencer suffered a gunshot injury.
The Ogun State Police Command, however, said it could not confirm whether the incident took place within the state.
In a short statement sent to the media, the command’s spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, advised the public to avoid spreading unverified information while the investigation continued.
Recalling the incident, Shaggi said he was on a routine brand activation assignment when a stray bullet struck him.
He said fear overwhelmed him when he saw blood, and he waited for medical attention.
“I was totally unconscious till I got to the hospital. So, I didn’t even know how we got to the hospital. But one thing I could remember was me praying till we got to the first hospital where first aid was administered,” he said.
Describing his condition at the time, he said, “A lot was happening at the same time. I was sweating. I was holding my leg, you know; I was seeing blood, and all I wanted to hear was a doctor or a nurse telling me, “Samuel, you’ll be fine.”
The comedian said the injury left him concerned about whether he could keep his career going, especially since dancing and other physical performances played a key role in his work.
He remembered wondering how he would go on dancing, singing, and playing the drums if he could no longer use his leg.
Shaggi said that for years before the incident, he had kept up a demanding work schedule.
“Since 2018 to date, I have never rested. It’s always back to back. If I’m not writing, I’m shooting. If I’m not shooting, I’m in the studio making music. If I’m not making music, I’m travelling for something,” he said.
He explained that spending an extended period away from work made him worry that audiences might forget him.
Shaggi said that during his hospitalization he tried to keep himself busy by writing and launching a YouTube series, even while he worried about his future in entertainment.
He said it was emotional to watch his colleagues keep working and entertaining audiences because he didn’t know if he would recover enough to do the same.
“There were moments where I would see videos of my colleagues. I would laugh, and sometimes I would just start to cry because I wasn’t sure if I would still be able to do all these things they were doing again,” he said.
The actor said he had surgery in Nigeria but was told he would need further treatment and physiotherapy. After around four months, he chose to seek treatment in Dubai.
He said his recovery moved quickly following the operation in Dubai. He said he could stand with support by the second day and walk with crutches by the third.
Looking back on the incident, Shaggi said he was thankful the bullet had not hit a more vital part of his body.
“It was a stray bullet, and it came this way to my hip. What if it had come this way and hit my head or hit any vital organ?” he said.
Speaking on his condition, he said he could now stand without crutches but still needed them for support.
“I’m still using my crutches for now. But there was a period where I couldn’t move without the two crutches. I couldn’t even put my leg on the floor, you know. But now I can walk. I can stand alone without crutches, but I still have to support myself with the crutches,” he said.
The comedian, thankful to have survived the incident, called his recovery a second chance and promised fans new projects.
“I’m grateful to be alive. It’s a second chance. You should also be grateful to have Shaggy back on your screen because right now I’m coming with exciting projects,” he said.
He encouraged his followers to anticipate his comeback, noting that he had multiple projects in the pipeline.
