X has announced that it would end its revenue sharing program in favor of a new original content rewards program, which will compensate creators for producing original content on the platform.
The social media corporation revealed the changes on Friday in a post on its X Creators account, stating that the new program will reward creators who contributed original material.
“Today, we’re introducing the Original Content Rewards Program, a new way to reward creators who bring original ideas, expertise, reporting, creativity, and commentary to X,” the business announced.
X said that it would no longer accept new enrollments into the revenue sharing program beginning Friday, but existing participants would continue to earn until September 7, 2026.
“Starting today, we’re no longer accepting new enrollments into Revenue Sharing,” it said.
According to the firm, current revenue sharing participants will receive three final payouts, with two scheduled on August 14 and August 28, and the third payment for earnings accrued till September 7 due around September 11.
X stated that existing Revenue Sharing members would be able to apply for the new program beginning September 8, provided they met the eligibility requirements.
The first payment under the Original Content Rewards program will be made on August 28, 2026, while existing revenue-sharing producers who enroll in the new program beginning September 8 will receive their first payment on September 25.
Under the new scheme, qualifying creators will be compensated for qualified impressions created by their original material, with payments given every two weeks.
Qualified impressions are defined by X as unique impressions from Premium users on the Home Timeline feed that show at least 50% of a post.
On the other hand, “The following are excluded from qualified impressions: impressions from the same account counted more than once per post; paid, promoted, or artificially generated impressions; and fraudulent impressions,” it said.
To be eligible, creators must be at least 18 years old, live in a nation where the program is offered, have a good account, and have either a personal or business account.
They must also subscribe to X Premium, Premium+, or Premium Business, have at least 500 confirmed followers, and have had at least 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users during the last 90 days.
X also stated that authors must post original content on a regular basis in order to remain eligible.
“We want to recognize creators who break news, share expertise, tell stories, create entertainment, and contribute meaningful perspectives to the conversation,” the company said.
The platform stated that original content might include threads, films, memes, pictures, sketches, reporting, analysis, comments, and reactions that add substantial value to existing conversations.
It stated that producers who use content created by others must include substantial commentary, context, analysis, humor, or creative change for such articles to qualify.
“Building on existing conversations is a core part of X, but simply reposting someone else’s content is not enough,” it said.
X stated that modest alterations such as cropping, filters, borders, watermarks, speed adjustments, or simple text overlays would not typically qualify as important transformations on their own.
It further stated that anything duplicated or substantially reproduced from another creator, content obtained and re-uploaded from X or another platform without the original author’s consent, automated content, disinformation, and deceptive content would be ineligible.
According to the corporation, accounts that break the program’s standards may be terminated temporarily or permanently, depending on the severity of the infraction.
It also stated that creators would be responsible for ensuring they had the necessary rights, permissions, or licenses to use content created by others.
“Original content is content you personally create that reflects your own voice, perspective, expertise, or creativity,” X said.
The company mentioned that the new program was intended to reward creators who make the platform more valuable by bringing original ideas and perspectives to its conversations.
“The Original Content Rewards Program is designed to reward the creators who start them, shape them, and move them forward,” it said.
