Former Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has endorsed the Rotary Club of Abuja Metro’s plan to establish a Community Volunteer Fire Station to serve Kafe District, Life Camp, Gwarinpa and neighbouring communities in the Federal Capital Territory.
Speaking through his former Deputy Chief of Staff, Adeola Rahman Ipaye, at the investiture of Rotarian Engr. Michael Oluwagbemi as the club’s 17th President, Osinbajo described the initiative as a practical demonstration of Rotary’s commitment to community service.
He said the fire station project, alongside planned interventions in healthcare, education, peacebuilding and economic empowerment, reflected how citizens could complement government efforts in building safer and stronger communities.
According to Osinbajo, Rotary has spent more than 120 years improving lives through humanitarian projects across the world, proving that while governments make policies, committed citizens often drive meaningful change at the grassroots.
In his acceptance speech, Oluwagbemi said the proposed Community Volunteer Fire Station would improve emergency response and help protect lives and property across Kafe District, Life Camp, Gwarinpa and surrounding areas.
He added that proceeds from his newly launched book, Blueprints for Progress, would support the Rotary Club’s humanitarian projects. The club also announced plans to implement programmes in healthcare, environmental sustainability, youth development and economic empowerment during the Rotary year.
The event also featured the presentation of Presidential Honours to distinguished Nigerians and the induction of new Rotarians, with the club regaining its mega club status after welcoming 25 new members.
