Victor Osimhen is set to return to action for Galatasaray after the first international break of the 2026/27 season, according to reports from the Turkish media.
The former African Footballer of the Year is anticipated to be back in the squad for Galatasaray’s Süper Lig clash with Kasımpaşa on October 9, as he carries on with his recovery from injury.
Osimhen had originally been included in the Super Eagles squad for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau. Two days later, though, the striker’s withdrawal was confirmed.
“Victor Osimhen’s recovery from a muscle strain has been slower than expected. He was included in Nigeria’s squad for the AFCON qualifiers because Galatasaray and the Super Eagles technical crew were hopeful he would be fit for the Super Lig game versus Trabzonspor and ready for the international window,” a statement from the team’s media officer, Promise Efoghe, read.
The striker sustained the injury on September 4 during Galatasaray’s match against Başakşehir and has since been absent from games versus Sporting Lisbon, Kocaelispor, and Trabzonspor.
With Osimhen sidelined, Coventry City forward Taiwo Awoniyi will make his return to the Super Eagles after a two-year absence.
Awoniyi’s call-up was revealed on Sunday, following confirmation of Osimhen’s withdrawal by the team doctors.
Among the other forwards who could feature in the Super Eagles’ attack are Tolu Arokodare, Akor Adams, and Rafiu Durosinmi, all of whom have been building strong cases through their club form.
Prior to his injury, Osimhen was in sensational form, netting six goals and setting up two more in his first four matches of the season.
