Cynthia Anijekwu, an upcoming Nigerian actress, says she has received over N13 million in donations just days after making a public appeal for financial support to cover her cancer treatment.

In a video posted by colleague Destiny Etiko on Instagram on Monday, Anijekwu revealed that she was diagnosed with cancer in 2023 and underwent surgery, but the disease later returned and has since spread to her bones and breast.

She disclosed that her monthly treatment costs now exceed N600,000 and appealed to Nigerians to help her raise N20 million for radiation therapy, surgery, and other medical expenses.

“I was diagnosed with cancer in 2023 and started treatment. I underwent surgery, but the cancer came back, and I have been in and out of the hospital ever since,” she said.

“The recent check-up showed that it has spread to my bones, and the cost of treatment is now much higher. I currently spend over N600,000 every month. The doctor said I will have to undergo radiation and another surgery, and it isn’t something I can afford.

“It has also affected my breast, and the pain is unbearable. Please, I need help to live and survive. I am appealing to Nigerians for support. I need N20 million for the surgery and treatment.”

In an Instagram post on Wednesday, Etiko shared a screenshot of her chat with Anijekwu, who revealed that N13.1 million had been donated towards her treatment following the public appeal.

Anijekwu expressed gratitude to the actress for amplifying her plea for help, saying the overwhelming support had left her “speechless”.

“I’m still in shock, and I’ll keep saying I never knew a love like this still exists, especially because I never imagined it would come in the person of you, my human angel.

“As of this morning, I’m seeing the sum of N13.1 million. From where to where, kwanu? Just a few days ago, I was crying to God and seeking help everywhere to raise the next funds for my treatment.

“God knows I’m quite a private person, but this condition is teaching me to unlearn a lot. I want to say may God, in all His glory, continue to elevate your steps.

“May your enemies fall into the trap they think they have set for you. May men and women honour you greatly. May your kindness never be used against you, and may the Almighty lead your steps to greatness. Thank you, Ma. I’m super grateful.”

In the accompanying caption, Etiko described the response to Anijekwu’s appeal as “overwhelming” and thanked everyone who contributed, saying the donations would go a long way towards supporting the actress’s treatment.

“You all contributed N13.1 million out of the N20 million she needs. It’s a lot, and she is overwhelmed with joy. She is super grateful and still in shock.

“God bless you all. At least, this will go a long way in helping her. Honestly, I never expected this massive love you all showered on her. All I can say is thank you, Jesus, and thank you to all my followers.”
