Nollywood actress Cynthia Anijekwu has made a heartfelt plea to Nigerians for financial support after disclosing that she is facing cancer for the second time.
In a video shared on social media on Tuesday, the actress revealed that she was initially diagnosed with cancer in 2023, when she had surgery and then chemotherapy in an effort to stop the illness.
She asserted that doctors initially handled the condition post-treatment, but the cancer eventually recurred and has since metastasized to her bones, necessitating more extensive care, which includes radiation therapy and an additional surgery.
As stated by Anijekwu, recent medical tests showed that the cancer has metastasized to her bones, greatly raising the cost and complexity of her treatment to approximately N600,000 each month.
The actress stated that doctors have advised radiation therapy and an additional surgery as part of her continued treatment.
“I had cancer in 2023. I did my surgery and took chemotherapy, but later it came back again. I’ve been in and out of the hospital. The doctor recently told me it has reached my bones, and the treatment is now much more expensive,” she said.
“I need to live. I need to survive. I’m asking Nigerians to please help me. Anyone that can help, please, I need help. Even my hands have swollen. The cancer has affected both breasts. I need to live. Please help me. I need to survive.
Your one naira and your two naira can add up to something reasonable for me to get the proper treatment for this cancer. I’m begging you, please help me,” she pleaded.
Prior to her health issue being revealed, Anijekwu established her career in Nollywood, appearing in numerous English- and Igbo-language projects.
Nonetheless, there is no verifiable public record linking a significant blockbuster movie or extensive filmography to the actress, as public focus has predominantly turned to her fight against cancer in recent years.
The actress mentioned that the financial strain has grown too much for her family, leading her to ask for assistance from the public.
