The Ekiti State Police Command has detained three suspects in connection with the alleged plot, kidnapping, and assault of Rufus Olorunfemi, chairman of the Ikere-West Local Government Area, and Funso Ajayi.
Michael Falade, the Commissioner of Police of Ekiti State, has ordered a thorough inquiry into the situation.
In a statement issued on Friday, the police public relations officer, Sunday Abutu, stated that “a preliminary investigation revealed that on 3rd June, 2026, at about 9pm, three Hilux vehicles loaded with armed men in camouflage uniforms allegedly accosted the LCDA chairman and one Funso Ajayi along Anoye Street, Ikere Ekiti, and whisked them away.”
According to Abutu, the council chief and another individual were taken to the compound of a popular politician, where they were severely abused before being released.
He stated, “Three suspects have been apprehended in connection with the incident and are currently being investigated. While effort is ongoing to arrest others who are at present at large, the suspects will be charged in court immediately after the investigation is concluded.”
The PPRO, who stated that no stone will be left unturned in the investigation, urged residents, particularly political party supporters, against taking the law into their own hands and encouraging violence in society.
Abutu stated, “The Command will continue to ensure safety and justice for all, fairness and rule of law, professionalism, and respect for the rights of all citizens.”
