Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has congratulated President Bola Tinubu on his election as the All Progressives Congress’ presidential candidate for the 2027 presidential election.

He praised the decision as a measure of the party members’ continued trust in his leadership.

In a statement released on Monday by the Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Sanwo-Olu claimed Tinubu’s victory in the APC primaries was “well deserved.”

He also commended party members and officials for holding what he described as calm and well-organized elections around the country.

The statement, issued by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, praised the APC’s National Working Committee and state executives for ensuring a successful process.

“I congratulate our leader and President, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, on his emergence as the presidential candidate of the APC for the 2027 election.

“This victory reflects the confidence and trust that party members across the country continue to place in his leadership and his commitment to building a better Nigeria,” Sanwo-Olu said.

The Lagos governor also praised the APC’s use of direct primaries, saying it demonstrated the party’s commitment to internal democracy.

“The adoption of direct primaries also demonstrates our party’s commitment to strengthening internal democracy by giving members a stronger voice in the selection process,” he stated.

Sanwo-Olu also praised Tinubu’s economic reforms and leadership style, saying the administration had taken difficult but necessary decisions to stabilize Nigeria’s economy and position the country for long-term growth.

“Over the last few years, President Tinubu has taken important decisions aimed at stabilizing the economy and laying the foundation for long-term growth.

“At critical moments, leadership requires courage and the willingness to take decisions that will move the country forward,” the governor said.

The governor, who expressed optimism about the future, added, “I am confident that Nigerians will continue to support a vision built on courage and sustainable progress.”

“The journey continues, and together, we will keep working towards a nation that gives every citizen a fair opportunity to succeed.”

The APC presidential primaries, held on Saturday, were part of the party’s preparations for the 2027 general elections.

Tinubu won with over 10 million votes, defeating his closest opponent Stanley Osifo.
