Kimberly Daniels, a Democratic member of the Florida House of Representatives, has accused Bello Matawalle of attempting to bribe a United States official to influence a controversial report on Nigeria.
In a viral video shared on her official Facebook page, Daniels alleged that the minister of state for defence tried to sway opinion around a report issued by the United World Congress of Diplomats, which she chairs.
The report centres on claims of targeted killings of Christians in Nigeria, a position Daniels has strongly defended despite mounting criticism.
According to her, the alleged bribery attempt was aimed at getting a US lawmaker to publicly counter the findings and shift the narrative in favour of Nigeria’s defence leadership.
“A US elected official was offered money by Nigeria’s minister of state for defence to change the narrative of the UN-WCD Christian genocide report,” she said.
Daniels further claimed she received evidence of communications linked to the alleged move, including a prepared statement and promotional materials intended to support the counter-narrative.
She also alleged that individuals connected to Matawalle attempted to discredit her and weaken her campaign by influencing US-based officials.
The lawmaker insisted that such efforts would fail, stressing that American officials remain united on the issue.
The controversy follows her earlier call for Bola Tinubu to remove Matawalle from office over alleged complicity in killings across Plateau, Benue, and Kaduna states.
As of the time of filing this report, Matawalle has not publicly responded to the allegations.
