Nigeria’s Super Eagles advanced to the semi-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after a solid 2-0 victory against Algeria at the Stade de Marrakech.

The triumph paves the way for a semi-final matchup with Morocco following their victory over Cameroon in the quarter-final.

The Eagles entered the match following a 4-0 victory against Mozambique in the Round of 16, with a total of 12 goals scored in four matches, the highest figure in the tournament.

Algeria, unbeaten prior to the quarter-final, had allowed only one goal in four games and was recognized for its solid defense.

Right from the beginning, Nigeria controlled possession and applied pressure high up the pitch, compelling Algeria to defend deep.

Victor Osimhen spearheaded the offense with strength and pace, aided by Ademola Lookman and Akor Adams, as Alex Iwobi commanded the midfield, connecting defense and offense.

In the first half, Nigeria generated multiple opportunities, with Akor failing to convert a one-on-one chance and another attempt being cleared off the goal line.

Algeria stayed structured defensively and aimed to pose a threat on the break, with goalkeeper Luca Zidane maintaining their chances.

The breakthrough arrived in the second half when Victor Osimhen decisively scored with a header to give Nigeria the lead.

The Eagles maintained their dominance, and Akor Adams netted a second goal with an assist from Osimhen, ensuring a comfortable advantage.

Nigeria dominated the match from the midfield, with Wilfred Ndidi disrupting Algerian offensives. The wingers and full-backs extended the defense, opening up room for Osimhen and Akor.

Algeria implemented changes in an effort to change the outcome of the match, but Nigeria’s defense and poise maintained their control until the end.

The Super Eagles will now proceed to the semi-finals, where they will take on the host nation, Morocco.
