Liverpool make £120m bid for Newcastle’s Alexander Isak

Liverpool has launched an official attempt to sign Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak, indicating a strong desire to add the Swedish international to their attack this summer, according to transfer expert David Ornstein.

Ornstein’s article on Tuesday indicated that, while no formal bid has been lodged, the Merseyside club has expressed a desire to complete a deal worth around £120 million. However, Newcastle insists that the 25-year-old striker is not for sale.

Liverpool’s interest in Isak is not new, and it comes as the team seeks to strengthen its front line after Diogo Jota’s terrible death earlier this month.

The Athletic reported earlier this week that the Premier League champions are aggressively seeking a top No. 9 as part of their summer plans.

Isak has impressed since joining Newcastle from Real Sociedad for about £60 million. He has 62 goals in 109 appearances for the Magpies, including 27 in 42 games last season, enabling the club to finish fifth and qualify for the Champions League. He has three years left on his current contract.

“Liverpool mean business. The interest in Isak highlights the determination at Liverpool to build on last season’s title success and dominate for years to come,” said club correspondent Gregg Evans.

This summer, the Reds smashed their transfer record by signing attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for an initial fee of £100 million, with the option for a further £16 million.

Earlier this week, Liverpool rejected a €67.5 million approach from Bayern Munich for winger Luis Diaz.

Liverpool’s pursuit of Isak could be linked to the possible departure of Darwin Nunez, who has sparked interest from Napoli and Al Hilal.

Thom Harris, a data analyst, hailed Isak as “a one-of-a-kind centre-forward”, combining physical presence with agility and technical aptitude.

Standing at 6ft 4in, Isak is recognised for his elusive dribbling, precision finishing, and threat on the counter-attack, all of which would complement Liverpool’s aggressive system under manager Arne Slot.

If Liverpool can sign Isak, he will join a striker line that currently includes Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, and Cody Gakpo, adding depth and potency as the club attempts to defend its Premier League crown.
