In a diplomatic engagement aimed at strengthening US-Nigeria ties, President Bola Tinubu met with Mr. Massad Boulos, Senior Adviser for Africa in US President Donald Trump’s administration, in Paris.

The high-level discussion centred on forging a robust economic and security partnership between Nigeria, the African continent, and the United States. According to Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, the talks underscored a shared commitment to regional stability, mutual prosperity, and deepened cooperation anchored in mutual respect.

Boulos conveyed Trump’s keen interest in enhancing direct engagement with Nigeria, describing the West African nation as a pivotal partner in the United States’ strategic approach to Africa. The Trump-era official expressed readiness to work closely with Tinubu to bolster American investments across Nigeria and the broader continent.

Key areas of potential collaboration discussed included energy and infrastructure development, trade facilitation, and job creation. Both parties also exchanged views on regional peace, particularly concerning the volatile situation in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and ongoing security challenges across the Sahel region.

Recognising Nigeria’s leadership role within Africa, Boulos lauded Tinubu’s proactive stance on stabilising conflict-affected areas and championing economic progress on the continent.

Tinubu reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to fostering transparent, mutually beneficial alliances with the United States. He emphasised that such cooperation should yield tangible outcomes that elevate Africa’s role within the global economic landscape.

The meeting marks a significant diplomatic step as Nigeria continues to strengthen bilateral relations with key international partners and assert its influence in shaping the future of Africa.
