    Jigawa: Five arrested, 24 houses burnt in communal clash

    The attack on Gidan Na Ruwa Fulani Settlement in Taura Local Government Area of Jigawa State left a trail of destruction, with 24 thatched houses and 16 local granaries set ablaze during a communal clash between warring Hausa and Fulani settlements.

    Chronicle NG reports that he incident occurred on Sunday night.

    The Police Public Relations Officer, Jigawa State Police C. confirmed the incident in a statement made available to reporters in Dutse.

    According to Adam, the attack was carried out by youths from Zangon Maje Village, adding that “the youths, who were allegedly seeking revenge, descended on the settlement, setting fire to houses and granaries.”

    He stated, “The trouble started when two individuals, Musa Hussaini and Shanu Sule, both from Zangon Maje Village, were beaten and had their motorcycle snatched. They raised an alarm, mobilising their community members to seek revenge.”

    The spokesperson for the Jigawa State Police Command stated that “the Divisional Police Officer of Taura and his patrol team responded quickly to the report, arriving on the scene to find the destruction, noting that normalcy had since been restored, with patrols intensified in the area to prevent further breaches of peace.”

    The PPRO cautioned individuals against taking the law into their own hands, stating, “Citizens are advised to direct their complaints to the appropriate authorities for timely and prompt response.”

    Adam underlined that anyone found wanting will be dealt with severely, underlining that the police command was working to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
