Erling Haaland maintained his excellent form by scoring twice as Norway claimed a 3-2 win over Denmark in their opening UEFA Nations League fixture.
The Manchester City forward scored seven goals during a historic World Cup campaign for Norway, which came to an end with a quarter-final loss to England.
In his first international appearance since then, Haaland scored his team’s second goal of the night in Oslo and then calmly added the winner.
His opening goal was set up by the gifted winger Antonio Nusa, who dribbled into the box and played a ball through to Haaland, whose first-time effort got past goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen.
Four minutes before Haaland scored, Fulham forward Oscar Bobb opened the scoring, taking a pass from Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard and curling it delicately into the far corner.
Rounding off the third goal within 11 minutes was Brentford midfielder Mikkel Damsgaard, who struck a superb free-kick from 25 yards.
Former Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund pulled visitors to the Denmark level on the hour mark.
Then, on 74 minutes, a well-worked corner found Haaland in the box, and he smashed in his second goal and Norway’s winner.
There was late drama when Norway substitute David Moller Wolfe received a second yellow card in stoppage time, but it was not enough to prevent them from moving top of League A Group 4, with Portugal beating Wales 1-0 in the section’s other match.
